Mother’s letter to her daughters

When you came to me, I knew what I you with all my heart and soul to show you my love was true,

Never let my past dictate your future, show how to nurture that kinder spirit. Mistakes I made were never because of you,

I knew this was one love I could not lose. Watching you grow, never was easy for me, praying that you don’t see the broken side of me,

I pressed on, even with blood shot eyes and tiredness in my limbs, I had to fight the restraint that a hold on my life,

Many times stamps that I was on my way out, but god knew that my time wasn’t near, sickness at a young age, that started another page.

The sacrifices that I made to make sure y’all had, not once did I give up trying to give you that, at any time of day or at a drop of a hat.

Playing both sides just to keep that happy family persona intact, never thought the fatherless impact when I signed that contract.

You’re older now and have a life of your own, I still have nightmares even though you’re grown.

Never wanted this same life for you, that I have lived myself, drinking was my outlet from the pain I endured

Keeping the bad away from your innocent eyes, you never asked for this, nor did I want the chaos to pass through like flies.

Kept the the visions of the world behind those closed doors, the constant tears I hid away from you, the emotionless expression on my face

Just wanted you to have a life I didn’t, not scared to talk, have fun, just live as a child should, if I could take back all the hurtful words or inconsistencies left in a memory I would

As a your mother, I want you to love freely, love hard, find that one that gives you everything that god provides

For this I give you, all that I know, none of my mistakes, flaws and all,

Stand tall for all to see, you brought the best out of me

Shine like the light you are, soar with the wings of a phoenix, let that fire burn across the big blue sky, just know that mom will always be there ready to swing

Be who I couldn’t, love like I wasn’t, focused when I didn’t, scream when it’s needed, but, always keep your sanity.
